Sangsum Galaxy 4 advert

After my change of plans, I decided to look for further inspiration for my final major project. As I was searching YouTube for adverts, I came across this simple but effective Sangsum Galaxy advert. I liked how clean this advert was made and the way the model floats around the screen which is how I was inspired. By watching this advert several times, I could see that the 3D model could of been made in Maya and maybe they also used a far more complex after effects program, because of this, I became more attached to the advert due to the fact it was similar to what I wanted to create for my second idea. From this advert I chose to use the way they worded the designs, which became successful at making my advert look more like an advert.

Sangsum used pastel colours to make the advert more natural and soft to the eye, it also gives of the sense of peacefulness which is why I enjoyed watching it.

Checkpoint

This is the beginning of my FMP. So far it has taken me 3 separate days, within 5 hours; which includes an hour of rendering (due to the fact I had to batch render it from Maya) and what took most of my time was using the rotobrush

Screen Shot 2015-05-20 at 14.37.31 for each frame, because I didn’t use a green screen on some of the scenes. I still have a few scenes to do, but I will have to shorten the music because I had expected my clips to be longer.

Class Crit

What i’m going to present next week for class crit: i’m going to show, the clips i recorded over the weekend and edited in after effects; maybe one short clip, showing the silhouettes with my products, a basic idea of my product, Depending on how quick i can edit in After-Effects, due to the fact i can only do it at college. However on wednesday i have two vocational lessons which should give me enough time to complete at least one scene to present to the class.

This video shows me experimenting with silhouette, trying to decide whether i should make it a silhouette like i did for the James Bond project or leave it the way i filmed it. I also had to decide what my background should look like, so i started with different colours and finally decided to go with a 3D dimension as my background.

This video shows me experimenting with the different ways that the character could interact with the object. This scene shows the enemy demonstrating how much the shield could withstand with any attack; at the time of me filming, I was only halfway when i realised that i had forgotten my green screen i the background.

Finished PRAI

Week 3 – Week 4

With some reassurance and my emotions in control. I faced the problem in front of me, figuring how i could make it easier for myself and complete this project.

Even with the changes i made, (find out what i changed and in detail what the problem was in the vlog) i carried on modelling my products, and with the Autra-Dome nearly completed i moved onto the AI, which was thankfully simple and easy to model in Maya.

Week 2 – Week 3

The next week was just as difficult, i had a colour palette to go by in my design but getting the correct texture was irritating due to the fact you have to think about the direction of the light. If the light was directly shining onto the colour it would brighten and when i moved the light, the other side would have the exact problem and it would be to dark. Also during the end of this week i had second thoughts about my idea, whether i had enough time to create characters, and animate them, which lead me down a whirl pool of emotions.

Week 1

On the first week i began the procedure of modelling my products and planning the characters/storyboards. At first it was simple to create the body for the bag but things changed when i had to create a dip; where the ball for the shield would float. Things became difficult when i did a booleans difference with a sphere to create a perfect alcove, however it became uneven no matter how much I lined it up to the center. Eventually I had to virtually go in and edit the edges/corners myself,  which consumed a large amount of my time.

This video clip from YouTube, shows the game that inspired me and an example of how I would like my advert to look like. I came across this video when I was playing the game Bioshock on my Xbox 360; I liked the way the company (2k) presented the characters and the humour behind the video.

(if you watch my vlogs, you’ll see me explain why I was inspired by this video)

Plans and Timetable

This video clips shows everything i designed in my sketchbook, with the music i plan to use for my final major project. i struggled to find a way to upload my music, so i found the best was to record going through my sketch book while i played the music on my speaker.

I posted these pictures to show, how much time I had left. After every end of the week I would take a picture of our classroom whiteboard, so I knew what was happening during the weeks. I spent the begging of Easter holiday planning and when we came back I developed those ideas, and started to model in Maya. After a quick change up I re-thought my ideas and came up with a new one that I knew I could accomplish.

Week 5

On the fifth week I began experimenting on the different camera angles I could use and the different ways I could get my model to interact with the objects. The first time i began shooting, i didn’t use a green screen; so when i began test the scenes in After Effects, i had to use the rotobrush tool for every frame, which did consume most of my time but it did what i needed, which was to mask the background, so i only had the model. Taking what I learned from the first shoot, i brought the green screen with me when i did another shoot; and this time when i was editing in after effect, it was quick and easy to do because i only had to use key-light, which removes the colour green with in the scene, hence the use of a green screen.

This scene, shows my dad stomping his foot, i asked him to do this because i believed i needed a way to activate the bag, but in the end i didn’t use this scene, because it was at the wrong angle and i couldn’t find a way to bind this scene with the others and find a effect that would make the shield appear.

This is a scene that i might consider using; it took me awhile to use the rotobrush for each frame in this video. I wished i had thought of using my green screen for this to make it look more effective which is why i am reluctant to use this shot.

I liked the camera angle in this scene, however i couldn’t make it fit naturally with the 3d background because it was stationary, so the shot would be cut off and glide across the screen; i had this same problem when i did a 360 around the model, the camera would shake and the tracking would effect it because the scene would float into the air.

Science-Fiction

Though out the years science fiction has been a big part of our culture, and the most common appearance in genre. The first appearance of the word science-fiction was in 1851 in a book called “A Little Earnest Book Upon a Great Old Subject” by William Wilson; who describes science fiction as the truth of science within a pleasing story that ‘itself may be poetical and true’. Many believe we take for granted the rapid advance of technology, creating the superstition of the supernatural ruling our world, which is were the idea of robots is persuaded into stories. 12b921cf1e6be237eeaccf72005d3446_large

Science-fiction goes far back to the early greek civilization when the idea of superhuman beings resided on the Mountain of Olympus, and distant lands that inhabited one-eyed giants, six-headed monsters and other imaginary things of the impossible. But times have changed since then and the idea of the supernatural has rising to fantasy, films such as Mary Shelley’s frankenstein, to x-men. Though the idea of Science Fiction is based on technology, it still branches into other genres, such as horror, fantasy and romance for example: Wall_e_ver7_xlg

WALL-E, directed by Andrew Stanton (2008) Disney – PIXAR. The film is about the distant future where a small collecting robot learns emotions and begins a journey to decide the fate of mankind. This animation has several genres including science fiction; he was a normal robot that turns into an artificial intelligence, by learning over time. However this film is based on the fantasy side of science fiction, unlike the film Matrix.

Matrix directed by the Wachowski Brothers (1999). is a more realistic film about a super AI that has taken over the world, and a man who helps to rebel against these forces by using coding against coding. This film was inspired by the y2k bug, when the computer systems crashed, sending many into a panic, believing the assumption that computer will take over the world.

These two films are different due to the way they represent the idea of science fiction, WALL.E represents the more peaceful yet still action packed side of animation, where the robots try to help the humans. Matrix is filmed in front of a green screen, and the technology is trying to destroy humankind by controlling their minds.
